Chap. 287.—An ACT to incorporate the Mount Crawford Toll Bridze
Company iu the County of Rockinghain.
Pissed Folrausy 14, 1806.
{. Beit enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawtul to open books jor receiving: subscriptions to an amount
not exceeding three thonsand dollars. to be divided inte
shares of twenty-fve dollars each, for the purpose of con-
structing atoll bridge across North river, at Mount Craw-
ford, in the county of Rockinghain, at or near the site of the
former bride.
2. The said books shall be opened at the town of Mount
Crawford, under the superintendence of the following named
commissioners, any three of whom may act, viz: John F.
Crawn, Jacob Lago, Cyrus G. Turley, Peter 8. Roller, John
D. Wise, George W. Skelton and Josiah S. Roller.
3. When fifteen hundred dollars of the capital stock shall
have been subscribed, the subscribers, their executors, ad-
ministrators and assigns, shail be and are hereby incorpo-
rated into a joint stock company, by the name and style of
The Mount Crawford Toll Bridge Compfny.; and are hereby
Invested with all the rights, powers and privileges conterred,
and subject to all the rules, regulations and restrictions im-
posed upon bodies politic and corporate by chapter sixty-four
of the Code of Virginia, and all other chapters of said Code,
so far as the same are applicable to toll bridge companies, and
not inconsistent with this act.
4. If the said company shall not commence the erection of
said bridge within two years, and complete the same within
five years from the passage of this act, they shall furteit all
right to collect tolls under this act.
d. As soon as the said bridge is completed, the said com-
pany may demand and receive such reasonable tells as their
by-laws may prescribe: provided the same shall be submitted
to, and approved by the county court of Rockingham, or
such tolls as may be prescribed by law, if the by-laws of said
company shall make no provision upon that subject.
6. The said company is anthorized to purchase or condemn,
in the mode prescribed by law, a lot of ground, not exceed-
ing one acre, for the purpose of erecting thereon a toll house
for the use of said company, and s0 much land’ as m: ry be
necessary for the abutments, and the construction of said
bridge, and of convenient passage over the same

subject to modification, amendment or repeal, at the pleasure
of the general assembly.
