Chap. 283.—An ACT to euthorice the consimiction of the Bridve, lately
burned. across the Revanna River, near Charletresville,
Dies Borin V2, 1st,
Whereas the bridge, known as the “free brideve” crossing
the Rivanna river, near the town of Charlottesville, has re-
cently been burned; and as the want ot said bridge entails a
serious inconvenience on the community formerly using said
bridge: and whereas the county court of Albemarle county,
at a court held on the sixth day of November, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-tive, did consent, on certain conditions, that
George ©. Omohundro and Richard FLY Omobundro should
reconstruct the portion of the bridge destroyed: Therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
George C, Omohundro and Richard I. Omohundro be and
they are hereby authorized, in accordance with an order of
the court of Albemarle county, to rebuild, over the Rivanna
river, near Charlottesville, on the site of the old piers, so far
as ean he done, the bridge known as the “free bridges” which
said bridze is to be built: ina substantial manner, of good
materials, as well considering strength and satety as dura-
bility; and when said bridge has been so built, in accordance
with chapter sixty-four, sections twenty-seven and twenty-
nine of the Code of Virginia (edit: on of cichteen hundred
and sixty), the county court of Aihemarle shall tix the tolls,
for passing such bridve, at. just aml reasonable rates; or by
azreement, the said court may consent to fix what the rates
of tolls will be, if the work be timished by a certain date, in
order to stimulate the builders to an carly completion of said
bridge.
2, The rieht is hereby reserved to the county court of
Albemarle, at any time after the completion of the atoresaid
bridve, after giving at least three months’ notice to the btild-
ers of their intention, to take the said bride into their own
possession, and make the same a free bridye, as heretofore,
on paying said builders the actual amount expended by them
in rebuilding.
3. This act shall be in force from its VASSAL,
