Chap. 274.—An ACT to incorporate the North Carolina Transportation
Company. ,
Passed Febréary 21, 1866.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it may be c
lawful to open books of. subscription in the city of Nortolk, P
under the direction,of Marshall Parks, B. F. Tebault, C.-K.
Staples, J. Cary Weston, or any two of them, for the pur-
pose of receiving subscriptions to the capital stock of a
company to be known as The North Carolina Transportation
Company; for the purpose of the transportation of freight F
and passengers, by stenm and other boats. through the Albe- °
marle and Chesapeake canal, and waters connected there-
with.
2. Be it further enacted, That the capital stock of said ¢
company shall not be less than fifty thousand or more than ™
five hundred thousand dollars, in shares of one hundred
dollars each.
3. Be it further enacted; That it may be lawful for the o
Albemarle and Chesapeake canal company, or any steamboat ?
company running to Nortolk, to subscribe and hold stock ina
said company.
_4. Be it further enacted, That the said company may bor- »
row money, upon the issue of their bonds or other evidences ¢,
of debt, bearing interest not exceeding ten per centum per »
annum; which bonds may be guaranteed by the Albemarle and
Chesapeake canal company, or any other company interested :
and the said company may purchase and hold such land,
wharves, docks and piers as they may require for their
business. ‘
5. This act shall be in force froin its passage, and shall be c
subject to amendment, alteration or repeal, at the pleasure of
the general assembly.
