Chap. 264.—An ACT to incorporate the Atlantic Dock and Iron Company.
Passed January 17, 1566.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That Marshall
Parks, Gilbert C. Walker, M. Courtwright and M. Dudley
Bean, and such other persons as may be hereatter associated,
shall be and are hereby made a body politic and corporate,
hy the name of The Atlantic Dock and Iron Company; for
the purpose of manufacturing all kinds of machinery and
iron work, and the building and repairing of steam and other
vessels; and they are hereby invested with the rights, pow-
ers and privileges, and made subject to all the rules, regula-
tions and restrictions provided and prescribed in the Code
of Virginia, and any jaws amendatory thereof, so far as the
same are applicable, and not inconsistent with the powers
and rights herein granted.
2. De it further enacted, That the capital stock of the
company shall not be less than fifty thousand dollars nor
more than four hundred thousand dollars, in shares of one
hundred dollars each; and each share shall be represented
by one vote in all general meetings.
3. Be it further enacted, That the said company may ac-
quire and hold lands, not exceeding two hundred acres; and
may erect such buildings. docks, marine railways and_ piers
on their lands, and in the Elizabeth river or branches thereof,
for the manufacture of machinery, iron work, and the build-
ing and repairing of vessels, as they may deem proper; and
may borrow money upon their bonds, or other evidences of
debt, bearing interest not exceeding nine per centum per
annum; which bonds may be secured by a pledge of the
income and property of said company.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
