Chap. 256.—An ACT to incorporate the Union Manuracturing Company
of the County of Fluvauna,
Passed March 3, 1866.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
James Magruder, Joseph G. Bullock, H. J. Magruder,
King, B. ll. Magradei *, John Candle. and such other persons
as may hereafter be associated with them, or any of them,
be and they are hereby incorporated and made a body politic
and corporate, under the name and style of The Union Manu-
fucturiug Company ; for the purpose of manufacturing wool,
cotton, flour, tobacco, leather, iron and other articles, at
Union Mills, in the county of J luvanna; and are invested
with all the rights, privileges and powers conferred upon
such bodies politic, contained in the Code of Virginia, so far
as the same are applicable to, and not inconsistent with the
rights and power ers hereby conferred, or modified by the pro-
visions of this act.
2. The capital stock shall not be less than thirty thousand
dollars nor more than one hundred thousand dollars, to be
divided into shares of one hundred dollars each; tour-fiiths
of which shall never be owned by less than four shareholders:
and it shall be lawtul for the commissioners hereinatter named,
to open books of subscription for raising the said capital
stock, at such tines and places as they may designate.
3. The said company shall have power to purchase, hold
and possess lands, not exceeding three hundred acres at any
one time.
4. The parties named in the first section of this act are
hereby appointed commissioners to carry out the provisions
of this act.
5. And whereas the said Union manufacturing company
was organized under an act passed by the then supposed
general. assembly of Virgima, sitting in Richmond, on the
thirtieth of October, eichte sen hundred and sixty-two—anil
the said company has been transacting business under such
supposed charter for several years past—it is hereby enacted
by the general assembly of Virginia, that all the transactions
and contracts of said company, not in conflict with the pro-
visions of this act, shall be valid and binding upon all parties
thereto, as if the said act under which the said company was
organized, had been valid and legal.
6. This act shall be in force trom its passage; subject to
amendment or repeal, at the pleasure of the general assembly.
