Chap. 229. —An ACT incorporating the Lynchburg Mining and Manuine-
turing Company in the Counties of Campbell, Aimherst and Bedford.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That John R.
MeDaniel, A. B. Rucker, John G. Meem, T. C. 8S. Fergueson,
R. LL. Owen, A. G. Haneoek, Tt. W. Crenshaw, John M.
Warwick, John Dudley Davis and F. B. Deane, junior, to-
gether with such other persons as may hereafter be associated
with them, shall be and they are hereby incorporated and
made a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of
The Lynchburg Mining and Manutacturing Company; for
the purpose of mining for and manufacturing mineral and
vegetable substances in the counties of Campbell, Amherst
and Bedford; and they are hereby invested with all the
rights. powers and privileges conferred on such bodies politic
and corporate, and subject to all the restrictions and regula-
tions in relation to joint stock companies and corporations
generally, contained in the Code ot Virginia, and any law
amendatory thereof, excepting where the same may be incon-
sistent with this act.
2. That the capital stock of said company shail not be Tess
than ten thousand dollars nor more than five hundred thou-
sand dollars. to be divided into shares of one hundred dollars
each,
3. Said company shall have power to purchase and hold
lands, not exceeding five thousand aeres., in the counties of
Campbell, Amherst “‘tHHl Bedtord.
4. Said company shall have power to acquire, from the
James river and Kanawha canal company, water power for
the use and purposes of said company.
® It shall be lawful for the said eompany to construct
railroads from their lands, to connect with other railroads
that may consent to such connection: provided they do not
invade the lands of others: and provided they shall not be
entitled to charge freight or passaze money on the transpor-
tation of tonnage or passenvers
6. This act shall be in foree from its passaze, and shall be
subject to amendment, alteration or modification, at the plea-
sure of the general assembly.
