Chap. 193.—An ACT to incorporate the International Commercial Coim-
pany of Norfolk City.
Passed February 7, 1866.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That William
Lamb, Charles R. Grandy, John B. Whitehead, James 3.
Leigh, Lewis W. Webb, E. C. Robinson, W. H. C. Ellis, E.
T. Hardy, Jacob Umstadter, George D. Parker and Thomas
T. Kempe, or any-three or more of them, shall be and they
are hereby authorized to open books of subscription to form
a joint stock company, by name of The International Com-
mercial Company of the City of Norfolk; for the purpose of
building, equipping, furnishing, fitting, purchasing, chartering
and owning sail and steam vessels for navigating between the
port of Norfolk and Portsmouth and the port of Liverpool,
and other foreign ports; and for such purpose, all the neces-
sary and incidental power is hereby granted to said company:
and all contracts made may be either verbal or under the sig-
nature of the president and secretary of said company, with
or without the corporate seal.
2. The capital stock shall be one million of dollars, to be
divided into shares of one hundred dollars each. The com-
pany may commence operations when one hundred thousand
dollars shall have been subscribed and the sum of ten per
centum on the amount of each share subscribed for, paid in,
with liberty of inereasing the capital five hundred thousand
dollars.
3. Said company may own a sectional floating or other
dock in the county of Norfolk and in the cities of Norfolk
and Portsmouth, and may own real and personal estate im any
of the citics, towns and counties of the state of Virginia,
necessary for the objects of the company.
4. Beit further enacted, That the corporation hereby ere-
ated shall have power and authority to receive money on
deposit; to make fire and marine imsuranee upon vessels,
coods, wares, merchandise and other property, and on freight,
hottomry and respondentia; and that they may also cause
themselves to be insured against maritime and fire risks upon
the interest they may have in any vessels, goods or other
property, in virtue of any loans or bottomry or respondentia,
or of any policy or contract of insurance.
d. This act shall be in force trom its passage, and be sub-
ject to amendment, modification or repeal, at the pleasure of
the general assembly.
