Chap. 190.—An ACT to incorporate the Virginia Industrial Assoqation
Passed February 28, 1866,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Thomas E. MeNcill, E. 8S. Ilammond. G. W. Latham, CGC. M.
Blacktord, M.S. Langhorne and EK. D. Christian, and theit
successors, are hereby created a body politic and corporate
under the name and style of The Virginia Industrial Asso-
ciation; and by that name, shall have perpetual succession;
may contract and be contracted with, sue and be sued,
implead and be impleaded in all courts and places: have a
common seal, and alter the same at pleasure; make all neces-
sary by-laws ‘and regulations tor the government of' said as-
sociation, not inconsistent with the constitution and laws of
the state of Virginia and of the United States.
2. The capital stock of said association shall be one million
of dollars, with power to increase the same to five millions,
to be divided into shares ot one hundred dollars each; which
may be subscribed and paid tor im such manner as may be
prescribed by said association, in their by-laws.
3. Said association shall have power to purchase and hold,
or lease or receive in subscription such real estate and manu-
facturing, mining and agricultural properties, and such per-
sonal property as they may decm necessary and proper for
the purposes of said association; and shall have power to
mine and transport to market coal, iron and other minerals,
and to manutacture oi], iron or other nunerals.
+. It shall be lawful for said association to coustruct such
railroads and other means of communication and transporta-
tion from such points on their own Innds as may be neces-
sary: provided, however, that the said association shall not
have the right to construct such rouds or other means of
transportation upon the lands of persons other than those of
said company, without the consent of the owners of such
lands.
2. This act shall be in force trom its passage, and be sub-
ject to alteration or modification, at the pleasure of the gene-
ral assembly.
