Chap. 181.—An ACT incorporating the Virginia Immigration and Land
Company.
Passed February 10, 1s.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That for the
purpose of introducing immigrants to engave in the various
occupations of labor in Virginia, James G. Chenery, Thoms
E. Dudley, William C. Knight, John R. Edmunds, Qt. I.
Dibrell, Bolivar Christian, E. S. Hammond, James Hunter,
R. M. T. Hunter, Horace L. Kent, F ranklin Stearns, D. 8.
Hufford, B. T. Wilkinson, Charles 'Y, Morris, W. C. Tomp-
kins and William Terry, their associates and successors, be
and are hereby created a corporation, by the name of The
Virginia Immigration and Land Company; subject to such
of the provisions of the fifty-sixth and fifty-seventh chapters
of the Code of Virginia (edition of eighteen hundred and
sixty) as are applicable to the purposes of this incorporation.
2. The capital stock of the corporation shall be not less
than fifty thousand dollars nor more than one hundred thou-
sand dollars, in shares of one hundred dollars each. It may
hold real estate to an amount not exceeding, at any one time,
fifteen thousand acres. It shall have all neccessary powers tor
establishing and maintaining such lines of steamships or other
vessels, and may deal in foreion exchange, grant policies of
insurance to such extent as may be requisite and proper to
romote its general purposes under this act. Its principal
office shall be in Richmond, Virginia.
3. Any five or more of the corporators aforenamed shall,
so soon as the minimum of stock is subscribed, act as com-
missioners to organize the company in pursuance of the fifty-
seventh chapter of the Code of Virgima.
This act shall be in force from its passave.
