Chap. 180.—An ACT to incorporate the Virginia Immigration Society.
Passed March 3, 1866.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That John D.
Davis, Alexander Rives, Launcelot ‘Minor, “A. F. Robertson,
E. L. Shelton, William H. Richardson, James Barbour, W..
B. Robertson, Robert Ellis, John M. Forbes, and such other
persons as may be hereafter associated with them, shall be
and they are hereby made a body politic and corporate, under
the name and style of The Virginia Immigration Society; for
the purpose of bringing immigrants into this state. The said
ersons may make, and the said socicty receive subscriptions
in money, lands or other property, in shares of five dollars
each, to an amount not exceeding three hundred thousand
dollars. The said society may hold Jand to an amount not
exceeding five thousand acres, and shall have authority to
sell, lease, rent or mortgage such lands as they may hold, vand
to erect buildings thereon for sale, lease or rent.
2. This act shall be subject to modification and repeal, at
the pleasure of the general assembly.
d. This act shall be in force from its passage.
