Chap. 154.—An ACT to authorize the City Council of Alexandria to issue
its Bonds in satisfaction of Arrears of Interest on its Funded Debt.
Passed February 20, 1806.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the city
council of Alexandria be authorized and empowered, if in its
discretion it shall deem it best to do so, to issue the bonds of
the said city of Alexandria, in sums of fifty dollars and up-
wards, and deliver the same in satisfaction of claims for inte-
rest due on or before the first day of January, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-six, upon the bonds of the said city of Alex-
andria, and in redemption of certificates issued for interest
due as aforesaid, and receivable for taxes and other dues to
the corporation of the city of Alexandria.
2. The bonds so to be issued shall bear interest at the rate
of six per centum per annum, payable half yearly on the first
day of January and July; and the principal thereof shall be
payable at a period not extending beyond the first day of
January, eighteen hundred and eighty-six. They sbkall be
signed by the mayor, and countersigned by the auditor, and
have the official seal of the city attached, and shall be trans-
ferable only on the auditor’s books, in person or by proxy.
They shall only be used for the purpose aforesaid, under the
direction of the city council.
3. This act. shall be in force on and after the first day of
April, eighteen hundred and sixty-six.
