Chap. 148.—An ACT for the relief of Sheritfs, Sergeants, Constables and
Coroners,
Passed March 3, 1866.
1, Be it enacted by the general assembly, That where a
sheriff, sergeant, constable or coroner collected money, ex-
cept debts or fines due the commonwealth, on executions or
other process before or during the late war, which he could
not, after reasonable effort, pay over, shall have the benefit of
the provisions of the act entitled an act to stay the collection
of debts for a limited period, passed second day of March,
eighteen hundred and sixty-six; but such officer shall be re-
quired to pay interest on the sum so collected: provided this
act shall not apply to such officers in the cities of Norfolk
and Portsmouth.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
