Chap. 13.—An ACT to authorize a Special Police to Search for Stolen
Property.
Passed February 16, 1866.
Whereas housebreaking and thefts of every kind are be-
coming of most alarming frequency: Therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That in cases
where the county courts have appointed or shall appoint
companies of special police, they shall be authorized to search
for stolen property at any time, upon the application of any
one who will make affidavit before the captain, or any mem-
ber of such police, or a justice of the peace, that he or she
has lost property of a certain description, and that he or she
has reason to suspect that it is concealed in the house or on
the premises of a certain named person or persons.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
