Chap. 124.—An ACT disposing of the State's Interest in the Virginia and
Kentucky Railroad. on certain conditions,
Passed February 12, iso. o
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, Phat
the president and directors of the Virginia and Iventucky
railroad are hereby authorized and empowered to contract
with any responsible person or persons tor the completion of
said road within five years from the first of January, eiyhteen
hundred and sixty-six; and in the event of such contract
being made with any such person or persons, then the said
president and directors are hereby authorized and empowered
to sell the state’s interest in said read to such person or, per-
sons, on such terms as a majority of the private stockholders
resident in Virginia may agree to dispose of their interest in
suid road. But this sale is authorized, upon condition that
the said road is to be completed within the period of five
vears from the first of January, cihteen hundred and sixty-
six; and also, upon condition that the state is released from
the deterred part of her subscription to said road, now un-
paid; and upon condition. that the board of public works
shall approve and contirm the said sale.
2. That previous to the sale authorized by the foregoing
section, a meeting of the stockholders of the said company
shall be called, and officers of the company reappointed.
3. Nothing herein contained shall affect the interest of
any contractor or employee resident in this commonwealth,
having unsatistied claims against said company.
4. The gauce of the said road shall contorm to that of the
Virginia and ‘Tennessee road.
