Chap. 114.—An ACT to amend the 16th and T&th sections of chapter 14,
and the dist section of chapter 213 of the Code of 1860, so as to in-
crease the Compensation of the Assistants, Clerk and Interior Guard of
the Penitentiary.
Passed February 16, 186".
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the six-
teenth and eighteenth sections of chapter fourteen of the
Code of eighteen hundred and sixty be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as tollows:
“§ 16. The superintendent of the penitentiary shall reeeive
the sum of two thousand dollars. The first assistant keeper,
nine hundred dollars. The seeond, third, fourth, fifth, sixth
and seventh, assistant keepers, each, eight hundred dollars.
Moreover, each of said assistant keepers shall be allowed one
hundred dollars worth of the manntactures of the peniten-
tiary, at the prices fixed by the directors, every year the
labor whereof shalk amount to the sum of thirty-two thou-
sand dollars. The surgeon of the penitentiary and public
enard shall receive the sum of nine hundred dollars.
“§ 18. The directors of the penitentiary v shall receive the
sum of three dollars each for every day’s attendance on the
hoard: provided, that no director shall receive more than
one hundred and fifty dollars per annum. 7 he clerk of the
penitentiary, eight hundred dollars per annum.’
2. Be it further enacted, That section fifty-one of chapter
two hundred and thirteen of the Code of eighteen hundred
and sixty be amended and re-enacted so as to ‘read as follows:
o1. The compensation of the said guard shall be allowed
and certified by the Board, at a rate not exceeding forty-five
dollars per month for each person, and paid by the general
agent.”
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
