Chap. 96.—An ACT to incorporate the Farmers Independent and
Benevolent society of Southampton county.
Approved February 3, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That Thomas!
Wynne, Robert Blunt, G. L. Blunt, Charles Ricks, John
Blunt, Athony Jones, and such other persons as are now or
may hereafter become members of said society, be and they are
hereby constituted a body politic and corporate by the name
and style of the Farmers Independent and Benevolent society
of Southampton county, and by this name shall have perpet-
ual succession and a common seal, may sue and be sued, plead
and be impleaded, and in all respects shall be invested with
the rights and privileges conferred, and subject to the restric-
tions and regulations prescribed for corporations by the gene-
ral laws so far as the same are applicable to this corporation
and not inconsistent with this act.
2. Said corporation may acquire and hold property real
ane personal, to an amount not exceeding five thousand dol-
ars. ;
3. The object of said society shall be the mutual benefit |
and protection of its members, the promotion of industrious
habits, the aid of the sick, and the burial of the dead.
4. Said order shall have power to make and adopt a con- |
stitution and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admission
and expulsion of members, and for their government, the elec-
tion of its officers and to define their duties, and for the safe-
keeping and protection of their property and tunds: provided
the same be not inconsistent with the laws of the United
States and of this state. ,
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
