Chap. 55.—An ACT for the relief of Henry Mahany.
Approved February 3, 1888.
Whereas on the ninth day of January, eighteen hundred
and seventy, Henry Mahany was appointed superintendent
of the Staunton and Parkersburg turnpike road - the board
of public works, under a contract that he should hold the
position for ten years, and receive all the tolls arising from
said road; and whereas in the year eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, the said Mahany after having expended large
sums of money on said road in the construction of bridges and
other necessary work, was removed from said position; and
whereas in the year eighteen hundred and seven-seven, the
board of public works appointed a commission to go over
said road and report upon the claim of said Mahany to com-
pensation, which commission reported that one thousand dol-
lars ought to cover the amount that said Mahany was enti-
tled to receive; and whereas said board, on the sixteenth
of March, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, recommended
that said Mahany should apply to the general assembly for
relief in the premises; now therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the sum of ight hundred dollars be and the same is hereby

appropriated out of any money in the treasury not otherwise
appropriated, to compensate the said Henry Mahany for any
and all loss he may have sustained by reason of the failure of
the board of public works to carry out said contract.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
