Chap. 493.—An ACT to incorporate the Fincastle telephone and tele-
graph company.
Approved March 5, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
James Godwin, M. W. Camper, Benjamin Hayden, C. T
James, Lewis Houseman, junior, and J. H. H. Figgat, and
their associates and successors, be and they are hereby con-
stituted a body corporate and politic under the name and
style of the Fincastle telephone and telegraph company, and
by that name shall sue and be sued, have a common seal, and
make such by-laws as may not be inconsistent with the laws
of this state.

2. The said company may acquire, construct, operate, and |
maintain telephone and telegraph lines and offices in the‘
county of Botetourt and elsewhere, receive and deliver mes-
sages for compensation, and conduct the general telephone or
telegraph business, or both a telephone and telegraph busi-
ness, as the directors may from time to time determine upon,
and may construct and erect at lines along the public high-
ways 80 as to not obstruct the same; and may acquire, use,
sell, or otherwise dispose of telephone or telegraph patents
and patent rights.
3. The capital stock of the said company shall not be less |
than five hundred dollars, divided into shares of not less than
ten dollars each, and the amount of such stock may be from
time to time increased by order of the board of directors to
not more than ten thousand dollars.
4. The board of directors of said company shall not be less -
than five in number; they shall elect a president, secretary, ‘
and treasurer for said company, one or more of which said
offices may be filled by the same person.
5. The liability and responsibility of the stockholders of
said company shall be only to the extent of the stock sub-
scribed for by them, and to no greater extent.
6. The said company shall have power to connect with |
lines of other telephone and telegraph companies in adjoining |
counties and towns, to be agreed upon by said companies, and
may hold stock in any other corporation, and any other cor-
poration may hold stock in said company.
7. And said company shall pay all taxes and dues to the’
commonwealth in lawful money of the United States, and’
not in coupons.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
