Chap. 476.—An ACT to authorize the extension of the Powell’s Val-
ley railroad from the Tennessee state line across the southwest cor-
ner of Virginia to the Kentucky state line at or near Cumberland
Gap.
Approved March 5, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for, and right and authority are hereby
granted to, the Powell’s Valley railroad company, a corpora-
tion chartered by the state of Tennessee, its successors and
assigns, to construct and operate its line of road from the
Tennessee state line, where the said road now touches or shall
be located to touch the same, across the county of Lee, in
this state, to the Kentucky state line, at or near Cumberland
Gap.
2 Said company, in the construction and operation of its
road within the limits of this state, shall possess all the rights,
powers, and privileges, and be subject to all the obligations
and restrictions of the general railroad laws of this state, so
far as the same may be applicable. And the said company
shall have authority to pledge its road, property, and fran-
chises in this state, in like manner as its other property and

franchises, as security for any bonds or certificates of debts
which it may issue: and provided further, that said company,
its successors and assigns, so far as the jurisdiction of the
courts, and the right to sue the company in the courts of
the state, are concerned, shall be regarded as a domestic, and
not as a foreign corporation: and provided further, that all
taxes or demands due the state shall be paid in lawful cur-
rency of the United States, and not in coupons.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage, and shall be
liable to be amended, altered, or repealed at the pleasure of
the legislature.
