Chap. 448.—An ACT for the relief of John H. Sears, late treasurer of
Mathews county.
Approved March 5, 1888.
Whereas, Jobn H. Sears, late treasurer of Mathews county,
is indebted to the commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of
forty-four hundred and twenty-eight dollars and sixty-six
cents, with interest on three hundred and sixty-eight dollars
and forty-eight cents, part thereof, from June first, eighteen
hundred and eighty-six, and on four thousand and sixty dollars
and eighteen cents from July first, eighteen hundred and
eighty-seven, and this amount will have to be paid by the
sureties of said John H. Sears; and whereas the sureties, R.
T. Sears and Mrs. Emeline Sears, are desirous to secure the
commonwealth of Virginia the said sum and pay the same;
therefore,.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
R. T. Sears and Mrs. Emeline Sears shall have until the first
day of September, eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, to pay
the commonwealth of Virginia the full amount due from John
H. Sears, late treasurer ot Mathews county, and six per
centum interest: provided, that John H. Sears, R. T. Sears,
and Mrs. Emeline Sears, within thirty days from the passage
of this act, confess a judgment for the full amount due the
commonwealth of Virginia in the circuit court ot the city of
Richmond.
2. After confession of judgment, R.T.Sears and Mrs. Eme-
line Sears (the sureties) are permitted and authorized to pay
the amount of principal and six per centum interest by the
first of September, eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, in state
bonds issued under the act approved February, eighteen hun-
dred and eighty-two, known as Riddleberger bonds, at their
face value, and if not paid by that time then the sureties must
pay in money, and execution must issue on said judgment.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
