Chap. 30.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections two and five of an
act entitled an act to incorporate the Chowan and Southern rail-
road company, approved May 5th, 1887, and to authorize the stock-
holders of said company to change its name to the Norfolk and
Carolina railroad company.
Approved January 27, 1888.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections two and five of an act entitled an act to incorporate
the Chowan and Southern railroad company, approved May
fifth, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 2. The said company shall have the right to construct,
maintain and operate a railroad, either of narrow guage or of
the standard broad guage, from any point on the boundary
line between this state and the state of North Carolina,
through the counties of Nansemond and Norfolk, to any point
on either side of the Elizabeth river, and to cross the said
river, with the right to cross the track of any other railroad
company at grade, or over, or under the same, subject to the
provisions of the general law now in force; and the said com-
pany shall have the right to acquire in the manner prescribed
y law, and hold such real estate as may be necessary for its
purposes.
§ 5. The said company shall have the right to construct.
+such wharves, piers, warehouses and other structures as may
be necessary for its purposes, with the right to charge and
collect tolls for the use of same; and shall also have the right
to unite, consolidate and connect its railroad with any other
railroad already constructed or that may be hereafter con-
structed by any company heretofore or hereafter chartered
and organized under the laws of this state, or to enter into
traffic or other arrangement or contract with any other rail-
road company organized under the laws of this state for
doing business over the line of such other railroad; and to
that end power is hereby given to said company to make and
carry out such contract by lease, purchase, acquisition of stock
in such company or otherwise, as will facilitate and consum-
mate such connection or consolidation, or such traffic contract
on such terms as may be agreed upon by the directors of this.

, 2. That the said, the Chowan and Southern railroad com-
pany, may, by consent of a majority of its stockholders in
any annual or general meeting, change its name to the Nor-
folk and Carolina railroad company.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
