Chap. 291.—An ACT to empower the judge of the county court of
Southampton county to appoint one or more policemen for the
various magisterial districts of said county.
Approved February 29, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the judge of the county court of Southampton county may, if
he deem it advisable, appoint one or more suitable and dis-
creet persons policemen for the different magisterial districts
of his said county, who shall serve as such until others are
appointed in their places. Before such policemen shall per-
form the duties of their respective offices, they shall take the
usual oath of office prescribed by law, before the judge mak-
ing the appointment, or before a justice of the peace.
2. The powers and duties of such policemen shall be the
same as those prescribed in section twenty-three, chapter one
hundred and ninety-seven, page one thousand two hundred
and twenty-six, Code of ‘Virginia of eighteen hundred and
seventy-three.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
