Chap. 274.—An ACT to empower the judge of the county court of Au-
gusta county to appoint one or more policemen for the various mag-
isterial districts of said county.
Approved February 29, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the judge of the county court of Augusta county may, if he
deem it advisable, appoint one or more suitable and discreet
persona policemen for the different magisterial districts of
is said county, who shall serve as such until others are ap-
pointed in their places. Before such policemen shall perform
the duties of their respective offices, they shall take the usual
oath of office prescribed by law before the judge making the
appointment or before a justice of the peace.
2. The powers and duties of such policemen shall be the
same as those prescribed in section twenty-three, chapter
one hundred and ninety-seven, page one thousand two hun-
dred and twenty-six, Code of Virginia of eighteen hundred
and seventy-three.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
