Chap. 273.—An ACT to incorporate the South View orphan home.
Approved February 29, 1888.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
William S. McClanahan, Peyton L. Terry, Henry S. Trout,
Doctor A. Z. Koiner, John E. Bushnel, T. J. Shickel, F. V.
N. Painter, Doctor J. D. Dichen, L. G. M. Miller, Doctor L.
A. Fox, Doctor W. B. Yance, J. B. Hairtz, and D. B. Strouse
be and they are hereby created a body corporate, under the
» name of South View orphan home, and by that name shall
have perpetual succession, with right to sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, and to have a common seal, the same
to alter at their pleasure.
, 2 The said corporation shall have the right to institute
and maintain an asylum for orphans, to receive, keep, and
support orphan cbildren, to educate and instruct in any one
or more useful employments such children; to send them to
any school supported by the state under the general laws;
to hold real estate, in value not to exceed one hundred thous-
and dollars; to work, manage, lease, sell, and convey the
same; to receive donations by will or otherwise, and hold the
same; to lend money, purchase and hold stocks, and any
other securities, and to accept deeds of trust, mortgages, and
any other securities for debt, and to do all that may be neces-
sary to enable them to properly manage the institution and
its property and assets of every kind whatsoever.
3. The said orphan home shall be located in Roanoke
county, Virginia, and the persons named in the first section
shall constitute a board of trustees, who shall have the con-
trol of the said South View orphan home and all of its prop-
erty and affairs.
4, The board of trustees shall consist of not less than
‘nine nor more than nineteen. All members of the board
shall be elected by the board: provided, that a majority of
the board shall be members of the Lutheran church. At any
meeting, of which due notice has been given, five shall con-
stitute a quorum. The board shall elect as officers, a presi-
dent, secretary, and treasurer, and shall appoint a superin-
tendent of the institution, and shall either appoint or permit
the superintendent to appoint such assistants as may be
necessary, but the board shall fix the salaries of all the offi-
cers of the institution.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
