Chap. 272.—An ACT to incorporate the Cohoke association.
Approved February 29, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
A. L. Adamson, Decatur Axtell, J. F. Bradley, J. W. Bro-
naugh, junior, N. W. Bowe, William I. Clopton, O. L. Cot-
trell, J. C. Cottrell, J. D. Crump, John 8S. EHllett, James T.
Gray, John H. Gresham, F. D. Hill, W. A. Jones, George T.
King, H. A. McCurdy, Jchn W. Owens, J. L. Robertson, J.
L. Schoolcraft, E. B. Taylor, E. D. Taylor, T. W. Tignor, E.
W.: Weisiger, Thomas C. Williams, Judson B. Wood, and
such others as they may hereafter associate with them, are
hereby incorporated under the title of the Cohoke associa-
tion, who are empowered to elect such officers as it may
deem proper, and adopt by-laws, which it may change, alter,
or amend at its pleasure.
2. The said corporation shall be empowered and author-

ized to purchase, lease, and hold lands, and water-power
with all rights and privileges appurtenant thereto, for the |
purpose of operating saw-mills, grist-mills, paper-mills, or
other mills for manufacturing purposes, and to lease and rent
the same to other persons who may desire to become tenants
of the lands, water privileges, or mills to be held by said cor-
poration; and said corporation shall be empowered and
authorized to propagate and rear fish of imported or other!
stocks or breeds in the ponds, streams, and other waters '
belonging or appurtenant to the real estate of said corpora-
tion, or which it may be privileged to use or control; said
fish to be taken for the use of said corporation or its share-
holders, or to be sold or distributed as may be by it deemed
best, and shall be propagated, reared, and taken under such
regulations and by-laws as said corporation may establish,
and which may not be inconsistent with the laws of this
commonwealth.
3. The capital stock of said corporation shall consist of
thirty shares of two hundred dollars each, which may be
increased to an amount not to exceed twenty-five thousand
dollars, and may be diminished to an amount not less than
five thousand dollars, and each-shareholder holding a certifi-
cate for two hundred dollars, subscribed and paid up in full,
and none others, shall have one vote.
4. Said corporation may hold real estate not to exceed six |
hundred acres, which shall include the Cohoke mills prop-'
erty, in the county of King William, now owned by said
corporation; may sell, convey, or exchange the same; shall
have a corporate seal, sue and be sued, and have perpetual
succession in its corporate name; but the stockholders of
said corporation shall not be personally liable for any loss, .
debt, contract, or obligation of the said corporation beyond |
the amount of stock subscribed for.
5. Any person who shall depredate or trespass upon the.
mill-pond of said Cohoke mills, in the county of King Wil-'
liam, by placing or using therein any boats, nets, traps, or
other contrivance for taking fish, without the consent of the
said corporation, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall
be fined not less than two dollars and fifty cents, nor more.
than twenty dollars for each day’s offence, to be imposed by
a justice of the peace of the county of King William, upon a
warrant issued for the purpose.
6. The principal office of said corporation shall be in the
city of Richmond.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage. :
