Chap. 206.—An ACT to provide for a new registration in the city of
Manchester and the counties of Chesterfield and Powhatan.
Approved February 24, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the electoral boards of the city of Man-
chester and the counties of Chesterfield and Powhatan, if a
majority of the members of each board shall so determine,
to order during the year eighteen hundred and eighty-eight,
a@ new registration of the qualified voters in said city and
counties, at such time as they may designate: provided how-
ever, that no such registration shall be held within sixty
days of any regular election.
2. That each of the registrars of the several election pre-
cincts of the said city and counties, shall, on the day to be
designated by each electoral board respectively, proceed to
register the names of all the qualified voters of his precinct
who reside therein, and according to law entitled to registra-
tion, giving notice of the time and place thereof for at least
ten days before commencing such registration by posting a
notice thereof at not less than five public places within his
precinct. Said registrars shall complete said registration
_within six days from the time of commencing the same, and
shall set between sunrise and sunset of each day, and imme-
diately after completing the said registration, shall cause to
be posted at three or more public places in their respective
precincts, lists of all persons admitted by them to registra-
tion. Said registrars shall in every other respect be subject
to, and governed by, the general laws of the state in regard
to the registration of voters, and the registration made under
this act shall take the place of all registrations heretofore
made in said city and counties aforesaid.
3. The secretary of the commonwealth shall furnish the
clerk of the hustings court of the city of Manchester and
the clerks of the county courts of Chesterfield and Powhatan
counties, with so many registration books as may be neces-
sary to carry out the provisions of this act.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
