Chap. 189.—An ACT to allow A. R. Green, treasurer of Halifax county,
and his deputies, six months within which to distrain and levy for,
and collect tax-tickets for 1882, and J. W. Chandler, deputy col-
lector, to make a further return of delinquents for 1882.

Whereas J. W. Chandler, deputy collector for A. R. Green,
treasurer of Halifax county, has in his hands a number of
tax-tickets for the year eighteen hundred and eighty-two,
which were during that year, and are now insolvent, and
should have been returned delinquent; and whereas A. R.
Green, treasurer of Halifax county, has accounted for the full
amount of said tax-tickets in his settlement with the auditor
of the state and the board of supervisors of Halifax, and by
motion on his official bond, has recovered judgment therefor
against said J. W. Chandler and his sureties, who are W. B.
Chandler, W. H. Moore, H. A. Morgan, W. N. Boswell,
Theodore E. West, David Canada, J. B. Carden, P. S. Card-
well, H. Clay Allen, T. R. Jordon, F. L. Chandler, John F.
Hundley, John H. Traynham, B. Canada, H. C. Hudson, and
J.J. Stigall; therefore,
- 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
said A. R. Green, treasurer of Halitax county, and his depu-
ties, be and they are hereby empowered, within six months
from the passage of this act, to distrain and levy for and col-
lect any of said tax-tickets for the year eighteen hundred and
eighty-two, which remain uncollected and have not been
returned delinquent, but have been paid into the treasury of
the state.
2. That said J. W. Chandler be and he is hereby allowed,
within the period of six months from the passage of this act,
to return as delinquent snch of said tax-tickets for the year
eighteen hundred and eighty-two, as were insolvent and
could not have been collected; and when a list of such delin-
quents shall have been approved by the board of supervisors
and the county court of Halifax according to law, the said
J. W. Chandler and his sureties, shall be allowed a credit for
the amount thereof on said judgment against them in favor
of A. R. Green, treasurer of Halifax, and said treasurer shall
be allowed credit therefor in any future settlement by him
with the auditor of the state and the board of supervisors of
Halifax county.
3, This act shall be in force from its passage.
