Chap. 71.—An ACT to incorporate the Fredericksburg Street railway
company.
Approved April 11, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
George KE. Chancellor, William TL. Slaughter, aygd A. K. Phil-
lips, Jr. of the city of Frederic ‘csburg, and W. L. White, of
the county of Stafford. and their associates. successors, and
assigns, be and are hereby constituted a body corporate and
politic ‘by the name of the Fredericksburg street railway
company, and as such may have all the priv ileves, franchises,
and immunities applic able to such a corporation,
2, ‘The said company shall have the power and authority
to construct, equip, maintain, and operate a street railway
along the streets of the city of Fredericksburg, with the con-
sent of the common council of said city, and into any adjoin-
ing county, on the county roads ot said county, with the con-
sent of the county court of said county.
3. It shall be lawful for the said company to transport
passenvers, freights and bagyvave over the line of their railway,
and to collect ture and tolls tor the same.
4. The capital stock of the said company shall not be less
than five thousand dollars nor more than one hundred thou-
sand dollars, divided into shares of twenty-five dollars each.
Stockholders shall be entitled to one vote for each share of
stock held by them.
5. The said company may acquire and own real estate in
the city of Fredericksburg and adjoining counties, not to ex-
ceed five acres, and the principal ottice shall bein Faedericks-
bury.
6. Said company shall have the power and authority to
lease its said road, to borrow money tor the uses of the cor-
poration, and to secure such loans by deed of trust or mort-
gave, on all or part of its estate, franchises, or Income, and to
make and adopt such rules, regulations, and by-laws as may
be necessary for the successtul operation of said company;
and generally to do any and all acts expedient and necessary
for the practical working and maiptaining of said company :
provided the same shall not conflict with the laws of this
State, or the United States, or any ordinance of the city of
Fredericksbury.
7. Said company shall have the power to receive subscrip-
tions for stock and give certificates for the same, and when
five thousand dollars of stock shall have been subscribed for,
then said company may proceed to organize in the mode susually
adopted by such companies. Stockholders shall only be liable
to the extent of stock subscribed for by them.
8. ‘The corporation herein named shall constitute the board
of directors, who, until their successors are elected by the
stockholders, shall manage the atfuirs of said company.
| 9, All dues and demands due the commonwealth shall be
paid in lawful money of the United States, and not in coupons.
10. This charter shall be subject to repeal or amendment
at the pleasure of the general assembly.
