Chap. 280.—An ACT to authorize a subscription by the county of
Chesterfield to the stock of the Petersburg and Chesterfield rail-
road company and its branches.
Approved May 18, 1887,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the county of Chesterfield may subscribe one hundred thou-
sand dollars of the stock of the Petersburg and Chesterfield
railroad company, and that polls shall be taken in said county
in the manner set forth in sections sixty-two and sixty-three
of chapter sixty one of the Code of eighteen hundred and
seventy-three; and if it shall appear by the report of the
board of commissioners appointed forthe purpose, that three-
fitths of the qualified voters of the said county voting upon
the question are in favor of the subscription, and that said
three-fifths includes a majority of the votes cast by freeholders
at such election, the county court of said county shall, at its
next session, enter of record an order requiring the super-
visors of said county at their next regular meeting, or ad-
journed mecting thereof, to carry out the wishes of the voters
as expressed at said election. T hereupon the said board of
supervisors shall appoint an agent to make subscription,
which subscription shall be paid as called for by the Peters-
burg and Chesterfield railroad company, in bonds of the said
county, conditioned as follows: The rate of interest on said
bonds shall be six per contum perannum. The interest on
said bonds shall only commence from the dates of the com-
letion of the railroad from Petersburg via Chesterfield court-
ouse to Manchester, including the main line and branch
lines. The principal of said bonds shall be due in thirty
years: provided a railroad is built across said county; but
the bonds shall be void, and as if they had never been made,
unless the road is completed across said county within the
time specified in the charter of the said Petersburg and Ches-
terfield railroad company, to-wit: within ten yeara from
March one, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven. Said bonds
Shall be signed by the president or chairman of the board of
supervisors, and attested by the clerk of the county court.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
