Chap. 203.—An ACT to incorporate the Warrenton and Marshall road
company.
Approved May 12, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Albert Fletcher, John A. Spilman, James P. Jeffries, William
KE. Gaskins, Joseph W. Blackwell, Enoch Jeffries, R. P, Barry,
James C. Scott, A. G. Smith, William H. Davis, W. T. Smith,
Joseph Jeffries, Moore C. Blackwell, C. C. Bradley, John A.
Gaskins, J. Brad Beverly, Elias Edmonds, R. Taylor Scott,
E. M. Jeffrics, John Scott, Joseph McCormick, A. F. Rose,
Eustace Jeffries, William C. Marshall, William Johnson, and
T. BE. Pattie, together with all others who may hereafter sub-
scribe to or become owners of the stock of the company, are
hereby authorized to be and they are hereby constituted a
body politic and corporate under the name and style of War-
renton and Marshall road company, with all the rights and
privileges, and subject to all the Habilities under the general
law of the State of Virginia, made and provided i in reference
to joint stock companies.
2. That the ¢apital stock of the company shall be five
thousand dollars, divided into shares of five hundred dollars
each. John A. Spilman, James P. Jeffries, William E. Gas-
kins, R. P. Barry, and James C. Scott, or any one of them
are hereby appointed commissioners to open books for sub-
scription at such place or places as they may select; and so
soon as four hundred dollars of the stock shall have been sub-
scribed to the first two miles of said road from Warrenton,
the said commissioners, upon reasonable notice, personally or
by publication to the subscribers, shall call a mecting to as-
semble at Warrenton at such time as the said commissioners
may indicate in said notico for the purpose of organization.
3. The object of the said company is to make, maintain,
and keep in good order and macadamize the same to the ex-
tent of their ability, the county road from Warrenton to
Centre and Marshall district line, and for this purpose the
stockholders may at their first general meeting make such as-
sessmcntupon themselves as they may deem proper, not exceed-
ing the amount of subscription, and thereafter, the directors
who shall not be less than three nor more than five, and who
shall be elected by the stockholders at their first meeting and
thereafter at such meetings of the stockholders as they may
determine, may make such assessment as they may elect, not
to excecd the aggrevate of their stock.
4. That the property bolders whose road tax under and
by virtue of this act is applicable to the improvement of the
said road, may anticipate the payment of the said tax for the
whole period of four years or any portion thereof, and the
treasurer of this county shall receive and account for the
pame.
5. That the road tax of all the property holders commence-
ing with H. C. Yates, and all bordering on Winchester street
to the corporate limits of the town of Warrenton and the
farms of Fletcher and Brother, William KE. Gaskins, Hnoch
Jeffries, Doctor J. R. Sowers, Mrs. Horner's heirs, Joseph
Churm, 8. P. Barry, Joseph Jettries, EK. S. Blackwell, 8. A.
Gaskins, A. W. Triplett, John M. Forbes, Robert Beverly,
John A. Gaskins, to the centre district line west of said road,
then C. C. Bradley, John Blackwell’s heirs, Doctor T. W.
Smith, William H. Davis, Eustace Jeffries, James P. Jeffries,
Edmonia farm) Elias Edmonds, James D. Blackwell, and
letcher and Brother, to the creamery, and all on the west
of the turnpike to Winchester street, the heginning, and any
other tarms that may be omitted to make a continuaus outer
line with all included within said outer line be collected by
the treasurer of Fauquier county, and paid as now required
by section twenty-tour of the act approved February twenty-
fourth, eighteen hundred and seventy-six, as amonded by act
approved March thirteenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-
seven, in reference to the roads of Fauquier county, and paid
over to the said Warrenton and Marshall road company to
be applied to the improvement of said road.
6. That the treasurer of this company shall give bond in
the penalty of one thousand dollars, with security to be ap-
proved by the county court, and shall settle his accounts
annually as to the public moneys received by him before the
commissioner of accounts, who shall return the same to the
county court as well as to the said company.
7. The corporate authorities of the town of Warrenton,
are hereby authorized to subscribe to the stock of said com-
pany in such sum as they may see proper.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
