Chap. 198.—An ACT to authorize the county of Buckingham to sub-
scribe to the stock of the Farmville and Powhatan railroad company.
Approved May 12, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the county of Buckingham may subscribe sixty thousand
dollars of the stock of the Farmville and Powhatan railroad
company, and that polls shall be taken in said county in the
manner set forth in sections sixty-two and sixty-three of chap-
ter sixty-one, Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three;
and if it shall appear by the report of the board of commis-
sioners appointed for the purpose, that three-fifths of the
qualified voters of the said county voting upon the question,
and that a majority of the registered voters of the county
have voted at said election, are in favor of the subscription,
and that said three-fifths includes a majority of the votes cast
yy frecholders at such election, the county court of said
ounty shall, at its next session, enter of record an order re-
uiring the supervisors of said county at their next regular
neeting or adjourned meeting thereof, to carry out the wishes
f theo voters as expressed at said election; thereupon the
aid board of supervisors shall appoint agents to make sub-
cription, which subscription shall be paid as called for by
he Farmville and Powhatan railroad company, in bonds of
he said county, conditioned as follows: The rate of interest
yn said bonds shall be six per centum per annum. The in-
erest on said bonds shall only commence from the date of
he completion of the grading of the railroad from a point on
he Farmville and Powhatan railroad to the courthouso of
he said Buckingham county.
2. The principal of the said bonds shall be due in thirty
rears: provided a railroad is bui.t from a point on the Farm-
7ille and Powhatan railroad to the courthouse of the said
Buckingham county, but the said bonds shall be void, and as
f they had never been made, unless the road is built from a
yoint on the Farmville and Powhatan railroad to the court-
10use of the said Buckingham county, within tho time speci-
ied in the charter of the said Farmville and Powhatan rail-
‘oad company, to-wit: on or before March three, eighteen
yundred and ninety, and the board of supervisors shall retain
-ontrol of said bonds until said road is completed.
3. The Farmville and Powhatan railroad company is em-
powered to build a branch line from some point on its line in
Cumberland county to Buckingham courthouse.
4. All acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed so
far as they are inconsistent with this act.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
