Chap. 53.—An ACT to provide compensation to Wyndham R. Mere-
dith for services rendered the Commonwealth.

Be it ‘enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is authorized and di-
rected to draw his warrants upon the treasurer for seven hun-
dred and fifty dollars, payable out of any money in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated, in favor of Wyndham R. Mere-
dith, Esquire, attorney in coupon cases for the city of Rich-
mond, ‘in payment for his services rendered to the state at the
request of the board of sinking fund commissioners, in cases
in the supreme court of appeals, and in the circuit court of the
United States, involving the constitutionality of the statute al-
lowing appeals in all coupon cases, and of the statutes requir-
ing the portion of the taxes set aside by the constitution for
the maintenance of the public free schools to be paid in money,
and of the statutes requiring the license-tax to be paid in money,
and of the statute requiring a special license of persons selling
coupons, and in other cases argued at the request of the board
of sinking fund commissioners.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
