Chap. 385.—An ACT to protect the fish in the waters of the Matta-
poni and Pamunkey rivers.
Approved March 3, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall not be lawful for any person to fish in the waters of the
Mattapony, or Pamunkey river, or on the York river, west of
Gloucester. Point and Yorktown, with a pound net, or fyke nets
or purse nets. Any person violating the provisions of this act
shall be fined not less than one hundred nor more than five hun-
dred dollars, and shall forfeit to the commonwealth all nets,
seines and boats used in violating the provisions of this act;
one-half of the fines shall go to the informer.
2. It shall be the duty of any constable or sheriff of the
county, whose court has jurisdiction over the place where such
purse net, pound net, ar fyke nets, to take such person offend-
ing against the provisions of this act before a justice of the
peace of the county, to be dealt with according to law.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
