Chap. 377.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1 of chapter 50,
extra session acts, 1884, in relation to records in the Clerk’s office
of Rockingham county.
Approved March 3, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the clerk of the county court of Rockingham be and he is here-
by authorized and required with the approval of the county
judge of said court to employ a deputy clerk, who shall pro-
ceed at once to restore so far as practicable the record of the
deeds, wills and such other records as may be ordered by the
judge of the county court of Rockingham, recorded in said
office prior to the fourth day of June, eighteen hundred and
sixty-four : provided, this act shall not apply to deeds of trusts
embracing personal property only, and to this end the said
clerk with the concurrence of the judge of the county court is
authorized to employ a competent deputy at as low a salary as
such competent person can be secured, and if no competent
person can be secured for a less sum, the said clerk shall have
power to contract and pay said deputy employed by him ata
salary not to exceed sixty-five dollars per month, and to pur-
chase all books and stationery necessary for the work, and the
expense of this work shall be provided for and paid out of the
county levy of said county when approved by the judge as
proper and right.
