CHAP. 344.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 13, of chapter
61, of Code of Virginia, 1873, relative to tolls on turnpikes.
Approved March 1, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section thirteen, of chapter sixty-one, of the Code of Virginia
of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, be and the same is
hereby amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 13. Where different rates are not prescribed by law, the fol-
lowing tolls may be received on a section of five miles of turn-
pike which has been completed, to-wit: Six and a quarter cents
for twenty sheep or hogs, and twelve and a half cents for twenty
cattle, and so on in proportion for a less or greater number;
three cents for a horse, mare, mule or gelding; ten cents for a
two wheeled riding carriage; twenty cents for a four wheeled
riding carriage; and for a cart or wagon, if the wheels are not
more than four inches wide, six and a quarter cents for each
animal drawing it; and if the wheels are more than four and
less than seven inches wide, three cents for every such animal;
and for every engine, machine, wagon, or other vehicles, moved
or drawn in whole or in part by steam power, six and a quarter
cents for every wheel of every such engine, machine, wagon
or other vehicle moving on the ground. .For a fractional part
of a section tolls may be received bearing the same proportion
to the tolls for a full section that the said fractional part bears
to such full section.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
