CHAP. 324.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 12 of an act en-
titled an act to authorize the board of supervisors of Nelson county
to let to contract the public roads of said county, and levy a tax to
keep the same in order, approved March 14, 1884.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section twelve of chapter two hundred and ninety-seven, ap-
proved March fourteenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-four,
be amended and re-enacted, so as to read as follows:
§12. It shall be the duty of the member of the board of su-
pervisors from each magisterial district to inspect twice a year
all the public roads in his magisterial district; and he shall be
examined as a witness before anv regular grand jury as to the
condition of the roads inspected by him, for which services he
shall be entitled to receive two dollars per day for the time he
is actually in said inspections; and in addition thereto, each
member of the board of supervisors shall receive thirty dollars
for the other duties imposed by this act, the same to be paid out
of the county treasury; and it shall be the duty of the judge
of the county court of Nelson, at each regular grand jury term
of said court (and he may at other times) to examine under oath
persons from different sections of the county as to the condi-
tion of the public roads, and to send before the grand jury such
of said persons as witnesses as he may deem proper.
