Chap. 266.—An ACT to prescribe a limitation to the period within
which a petition may be filed, or other proceeding had or instituted
to try the question as to whether any paper in print, writing, en-
graving, or lithographing, purporting to be a coupon detached
from or attached to any bond of the state of Virginia, is a genuine
legal coupon.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
from and after the first day of July, eighteen hundred and
eighty-eight, no petition shall be filed, or other proceeding
had or instituted to try the question as to whether any paper
in print, writing, engraving, or lithographing, purporting to
be a coupon detached from or attached to any bond of the
state of Virginia, is a genuine legal coupon, legally receivable
for taxes, debts, dues and demands due the state, except as
follows: that is to say, where such paper purports upon its face
to have first become so receivable on or at any time prior to
the first day of July, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, such
petition shall be filed or other proceeding had or instituted to
try such question within one year from the first day of July,
eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, and not after; and where
such paper purports upon its face to have first become so re-
ceivable at any time subsequent to the first day of July, eight-
een hundred and eighty-eight, such petition shall be filed or
other proceeding had or instituted to try such question within
one year from the time such paper purports to have first be-
come so receivable, and not after.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
