CHAP. 221.—An ACT to bar the commonwealth from collecting taxes
due and payable prior to January 1, 1876.
Approved February 26, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the commonwealth, and the counties and corporations of the
commonwealth, be and the same are hereby forever barred from
collecting taxes due and payable prior to January first, eighteen
hundred and seventy-six, by sale or otherwise: provided, that
this act shall not apply to taxes assessed against the lands of
non-resident land-owners.
2. County and city treasurers are hereby directed not to ad-
vertise'for sale, and if advertised not to sell, any lands to which
the first section of this act applies.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
