CHAP. 207.—An ACT to incorporate the Culpeper, Sperryville, Wash-
ington and Front Royal Telephone Company.
Approved February 24, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
H. H. Downing, C. H. Beaty, M. M. Johnson, Alexander
Cary, James E. Yates, Jno. L. Browning, Middleton Miller, H.
S. Minifee, Charles Green, J. B. Miller, H. H. Sleet, Wm. S.
Mason, R. E. Miller, Wm. T. Yancey, S. B. Johnson, Thos.
G. Popham, Silas L. Cooper, D. A. Grimsley, S. Russell
Smith, Wm. B. Smoot, P. H. O’Bannon, and such others as
may be associated with them, and their successors, be and are
hereby constituted a body politic and corporate, under the
name of the Culpeper, Sperryville, Washington and Front
Royal Telephone Company; and as such may sue and be sued;
may have, make and use a common seal, and the same to alter
and change at pleasure; and may make such by-laws and regu-
lations for the government of said company as they may think
wise, not in conflict with the laws of this state or of the United
States.
2. The said corporation shall have authority to acquire, erect
and maintain telephone lines and offices in the counties of Cul-
peper, Rappahannock and Warren; and may erect its lines
along the public highways, but not to obstruct the same‘ pro-
vided, however, that the main line erected by said corporation
shall be begun at Culpeper or Front Royal. If begun at Cul-
peper, shall be constructed to Washington; if begun at Front
Royal, shall be constructed to Sperryville, with the privilege of
extending to Front Royal or Culpeper at any time thereafter.
3. The capital stock of said company shall be not less than
five hundred nor more than five thousand dollars, to be divided
into shares of ten dollars each.
4. The officers of said company shall be a president and
secretary, and treasurer, to be elected by the board of directors;
and a board of directors of not less than five, to be elected by
the stockholders in general meeting. The stockholders shall
make suitable by-laws for the government of the corporation.
5. The liability and responsibility of the stockholders of said
company, shall be only to the extent of the stock held and
paid for by them, and no greater extent.
6. The said company shall have power to connect with lines
of other telephone companies in adjoining counties or towns,
to be agreed upon by said companies.
7. And said company shall pay all taxes and dues to the
commonwealth in lawful money of the United States, and not
in coupons.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
