Chap. 197.—An ACT toconfer upon the Council of the town of Dan-
ville, authority to build, purchase, repair and keep up a free bridge
or free bridges across Dan river, and to confer upon the said cor-
poration the power to increase its bonded indebtedness for public
improvements.
Approved February 24, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the council of the town of Danville, in addition to the powers
it now has under the charter of said town, shall have authority
and power, and the same are hereby conferred’ on it to pur-
chase, build, repair, and keep up a free bridge or free bridges
across Dan river, opposite to or near to the town, at such point
or points as said council shall determine upon from time to
time, and improve the approaches thereto, not to exceed two
hundred yards beyond the north bank of said Dan river, and
to defray the expenses thereof out of the revenue of the town
of Danville: provided, however, that two-thirds of the mem-
bers of the entire council shall concur in and vote for any such
proposed improvement and expenditure before the same shal
made.
2. And the said council shall have power also to issue bonds
of said town to an amount not exceeding five hundred thou.
sand dollars, in addition to the present indebtedness of the
town, for the purpose of subscribing to the stock of any rail.

scription shall have been first submitted to the qualified voter:
of the town of Danville, and shall be approved by two-thirds
of the qualified voters of said town voting at said election,
which two-thirds shall include a majority of the qualified regis-
tered voters owning real estate in said town; said five hundred
thousand dollars shall also include such bonds as may be issued
under section one, for the construction of any iron bridge at or
near the site of the present bridge across Dan river, owned by
the town.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
