Chap. 156.—An ACT to incorporate Stonewall Camp Association,
ex-Confederates, of Portsmouth.
Approved February 18, 1886.
Whereas an association of Confederate veterans has been
organized in the city of Portsmouth, under the title of the
Stonewall Camp of Confederate Veterans, the object of which
is declared in its constitution to be to cultivate, preserve and
strengthen those kind and fraternal feelings which bind together
those who honorably served in the army and navy of the Con-
federate states; to perpetuate the memory and history of the
dead; to assist such former comrades in arms as need help and
protection; and to extend needful aid to the widows and orphans
of those who have fallen; and whereas the incorporation of
said association will tend to promote its objects; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the officers and members of the said association be and they
are hereby created a body politic and corporate, under the
name and style of Stonewall Camp of Confederate Veterans.
2. That the said corporation may have a common seal, may
sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, may receive and
hold gifts, donations, bequests and devises, and may acquire
title to and hold lands reasonably sufficient for its purposes,
may invest its funds as it may deem best, in personal or real
estate security, and, when necessary for its protection, buy and
sell all real estate on which it may acquire a lien, and may
adopt a constitution and by-laws, not inconsistent with the
constitution and laws of this state.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
