Chap. 152.—An ACT to incorporate the Aged Men and Women’s
Home Society of Alexandria, Virginia.
Approved February 18, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Catharine Dulancy, Martha Hamilton, R. H. Lyles, H. A.
Lyles, H. A. Carroll, James Webster, William Triplett, Mar-
tha Felton, Martha A: Parker, Randolph Whitter, with such
other persons as are now or may be hereafter associated with
them, and their successors, be and they are hereby constituted
a body politic and corporate, under the name and style of the
Aged Men and Women’s Home Society of Alexandria, Vir-
ginia, with power to establish, maintain and conduct a home
for the aged men and women in the city of Alexandria, Vir-
ginia.
2. That the said society shall have power to receive subscrip-
tions in money or other things, and take by purchase, devise,
gift or otherwise, real and personal property, not exceeding
ten thousand -dollars in value, and the same to hold, transfer,
grant and convey, as the purposes of the said home may re-
quire; but all such property, real or personal, belonging, re-
ceived or acquired by said society, and all proceeds of any sale
thereof, shall be devoted exclusively to the purposes of said
home.
3. The estate, property, business and affairs ‘of the said so-
ciety, shall be under the control of a board of directors, to
consist of not less than five nor more than nine persons, to be
annually chosen by the members of the said society, to hold
until their successors are appointed and enter on the duties of
their office.
4. Until otherwise ordered by the said society, the officers
shall consist of a president, three vice-presidents, secretary and
treasurer, to be annually elected by the society, or by the board
of directors; all of said officers shall be members of the society.
5. The said society shall have power to make such by-laws,
rules and regulations for its government, and the management
and disposition of its funds, as from time to time may be deemed
roper: provided said by- laws, ruies and regulations be not
inconsistent with or contrary to the laws and constitution of
the United States or of this state.
6. Admission to such home shall be suibject to the rules and
regulations of said society in force; and the property, real and
personal of said society, shall be exempt. from taxation, both
state and municipal.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
