Chap. 145.—An ACT re-arranging the judicial circuits of the state.
Approved February 16, 1886.
Whereas the public interests require a re-arrangement of the
judicial circuits of this state: therefore
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the state shall be divided into seventeen judicial circuits, as
follows :
I. The counties of Norfolk, Princess Anne, Nansemond,
Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry, and the cities of Norfolk
and Portsmouth shall constitute the first circuit.
II. Counties of Brunswick, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Greenes-
ville, Nottoway, Prince George, Sussex, and the city of Peters-
burg shall constitute the second circuit.
III. Counties of Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumber-
land, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Powhatan and Prince Edward
shall constitute the third circuit. |
IV. Town of Danville, counties of Franklin, Halifax, Henry,
Patrick and Pittsylvania shall constitute the fourth circuit.
V. Counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell,
Nelson, and city of Lynchburg shall constitute the fifth circuit.
VI. Counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Goochland, Fluvanna,
Madison, Orange and Greene shall constitute the sixth circuit.
VII. The county of Henrico and city of Richmond shall
constitute the seventh circuit.
VIII. That the counties of Accomac, Northampton, York,
Elizabeth City, Warwick, James City, New Kent, Charles City
and the city of Williamsburg shall constitute the eighth circuit.
IX. Counties of Essex, King William, King and Queen,
Northumberland, Lancaster, Gloucester, Mathews and Middle-
sex shall constitute the ninth circuit.
X. Counties of Caroline, Fredericksburg, Hanover, King
George, Louisa, Richmond, Spotsylvania, Stafford and West-
moreland shall constitute the tenth circuit.
XI. Counties of Alexandria, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun,
Prince William, Rappahannock and city of Alexandria shall
constitute the eleventh circuit.
XII. Counties of Clarke, Warren, Frederick, Shenandoah
and Page shall constitute the twelfth circuit.
XIII. That the counties of Augusta, Rockbridge, Rockiag-
ham, Bath, Highland and Alleghany shall constitute the
thirteenth circuit.
XIV. That the counties of Botetourt, Roanoke, Craig, Mont-
gomery, Floyd and the city of Roanoke shall constitute the
fourteenth circuit.
XV. That the counties of Wythe, Pulaski, Giles, Carroll,
Bland and Tazewell shall constitute the fifteenth circuit.
XVI. That the counties of Washington, Smythe, Grayson
and Russell shall constitute the sixteenth circuit.
XVII. That the counties of Scott, Lee, Wise, Dickensen
and Buchanan shall constitute the seventeenth circuit.
2. This act shall be in force on and after January first, eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-seven.
