CHAP. 144.—An ACT to amend the Charter of the Town of Jefferson-
ville, in the County of Tazewell.

Approved February 16, 1886.

1. Be it enacted ‘by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of an act entitled an act to incorporate the town ot
Jeffersonville, in the county of Tazewell, approved February
twenty-first, eighteen hundred and sixty-six, be amended and
re-enacted, so as to read as follows: .

$1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
all the territory in Tazewell countv included in the following
boundaries, viz: Beginning at a stake on the north edge of the
turnpike east of Jeffersonville, and at the end of the division
line between R. B. Gillespie’s estate and J. W. Crockett; thence
north forty-one west twenty-four poles fifteen links to stake
two, north six and three-quarter east three poles sixteen links
to stake three, north thirty-six and qne-half east nine poles
twenty links to stake four, north forty-six and one-quarter west
seventeen poles four links to stake five, north fifty-eight west one
hundred and thirty-one poles four inks to stake six, to the east
side of the turnpike leading to Kelly’s.mills, and with the east
side of said turnpike south thirty-three west ten poles nine links
to stake seven, south eighty-seven west eight poles seven links
to stake eight, south seventy-seven west three poles sixteen
links to stake nine, south forty-nine and one-half west five poles
to stake ten, south twenty-two and three-quarters west five
poles eight links to station eleven, south thirteen and one-half
east ten poles sixteen links to stake twelve, north eighty-two
and one-half west twenty-eight poles crossing said road to
stake thirteen, south eleven east forty-eight poles ten links to
stake fourteen, south fifty-four and one-half east thirty-seven
poles to stake fifteen, on the west side of said road, eight feet
west of G. W. Spotts’ gate post, south sixty-one and seven-
eighths west thirty poles seven links to stake sixteen, north
eighty-two and one-fourth west thirty-six poles twenty-one
links to stake seventeen, at a gateway on said Spotts’ private
road, south sixty-seven west thirty-six poles three links to
stake eighteen, south thirty-eight east thirty poles fifteen links
to stake nineteen, on the north edge of turnpike west of Jef-
fersonville, and with north side of same, south sixty-six and
one-half, west six poles twenty-three links to stake twenty;
south fifty-seven and three-quarters west twenty-six poles
eleven links to stake twenty-one, south sixty-eight and one-
half west twenty poles six links to stake twenty-two, on H.
G. Puny’s line, south thirty and one-quarter east seventy-three
poles, crossing said road to stake twenty-three, south seven
east one hundred poles to stake twenty-four, south eighty-five,
east twenty-six poles to stake twenty-five, south seventy-four
and one-quarter east twenty poles to stake twenty-six, south
seventy-six and one-half east thirty-seven poles fifteen links to
stake twenty-seven, north thirty-six and three-quarters east
thirty poles to stake twenty-eight, south twenty-one east twen-
ty-seven poles to stake twenty-nine, south one and one-half
west twenty-one poles to stake thirty, north eighty and one-
half east one hundred and twenty-nine poles to stake thirty-
one, in line between A. J. ang S. D. May, north seventy, east
one hundred and thirty-eight poles to stake thirty-two, in line
between S. D. and Jack May, north thirty-five west seventy-
seven poles to south edge of William O. Whitman’s road,
stake thirty-three, and with south side of said road south
seventy-seven and three-quarters, west fifty-three poles three
links to stake thirty-four, opposite Cam. Smith’s south-west
corner, north eleven and one-half west thirteen poles five links
to stake thirty-five, north seventy-five and one-half east sixteen
poles thirteen links to stake thirty-six, north forty‘and one-
half west nineteen poles to stake thirty-seven, north sixty-six
and one-half east thirty-seven poles seven links to stake thirty-
eight, north seventy-one east sixty-eight poles to stake thirty-
nine, in line between William O. Whitman and J. P. Kelly,
north twenty-two and three-quarters west forty-three poles to
stake forty, south fifty-seven west thirty-two poles to stake
forty-one, north thirty-four west one hundred and six poles to
south side of turnpike east of Jeffersonville, stake forty-two,
and with south side of said road south sixty-three and one-
quarter west eight poles to stake forty-three, south forty-nine,
west nineteen poles five links to stake forty-four in branch;
thence crossing to north side of said road to stake forty-five,
south forty-nine west seventeen poles to stake one—beginning,
with the present sub-divisions of part of said territory into
lots, streets, alleys and roads; shall be and the same is hereby
made a town corporate, by the name of the town of Jefferson-
ville, and by that name shall have and exercise the powers
conferred upon towns by, and be subject to, the provisions of
the fifty-fourth chapter of the Code of Virginia, eighteen hun-
dred and seventy-three, so far as they may be consistent with
this act. |
