Chap. 100.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the 18th section of chap-
ter 235 of the Acts of 1871-’72, entitled an act to providea new
charter for the town of Suffolk. ms
Approved February 8, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section eighteen of an act to provide a new charter for the
town of Suffolk, in force March nineteenth, eighteen bundred
and seventy-two, be amended and re-enacted so as to’read as
follows:
§18. In all cases in which laws of the state require a license
to be taken out by any person engaged in any business, trade,
occupation or calling, or for any other purpose, the said coun-
cil shall have power to require a license to be taken out in all
such cases, for the benefit of said town, before such person
shall be permitted to pursue such business, trade, occupation
or calling, within the corporate limits of said town, and to im-
pose a license on all drays, carts and wagons, used in hauling
goods, wares or merchandise, for hire within the limits of said
town, to be delivered to any resident of said town. Said
council may also grant or refuse license to owners or keepers
of wagons, drays, carts, hacks, and other wheeled vehicles,
kept or employed in said town for hire or as carriers for the
public, and may require the owners of such wagons. drays,
carts, and so forth, using them in the town, to take out a li-
cense therefor, and may require taxes to be paid thereon, and
subject the same to such regulations as they may deem proper.
2. This act shall be in force from the first day of May, 1886.
