Chap. 20.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act to provide for
authorizing Religious Congregations and other Benevolent, Literary
and Charitable Institutions which are not incorporated, to sell,
exchange or encumber their property, approved January 31, 1884.
Approved August 26, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of an act approved January thirty-one, eighteen
hundred and eighty-four, be amended and re-enacted so as
to read as follows:
§1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the trustees of any religious congregations, or of any
other unincorporated benevolent, literary or charitable orga-
nization or institution, may file their petition in the circuit
court of any city or county, or the corporation or lustings
court of any city, or before the judge thereof in vacation,
asking leave to sell, exchange or encumber their property,
and upon evidence being produced before the court, or the
judge thereof in vacation, that it is the wish of any such con-
gregation, or the members of any such institution or congre-
gation, to sell, exchange or encumber their property, the
irt or judge thereof in vacation, shall make such order as
y be proper, providing for the sale of said property, or
_-«t the same may be exchanged or encumbered,.and in the
case of sale of any property, for the proper reinvestment of
the proceeds of the same. The court may make such order
as to costs, as to it may seem proper.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
