Chap. 63.—An ACT to amend sections 6 and 7 and 8, and to repeal
section 10 of an act approved December 21, 188%, entitled an act to es-
tablish eight voting precincts in the city of Norfolk, and to provide
for a registration of the voters therein.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections six, seven, and e1eht of an act entitled an act to es-
tablish eight voting precincts in the city of Nortolk, and to
rovide for a registration of the voters therein, approved
yecember twenty-first. eighteen hundred and eighty- three, be
and the same are hereby amended and re-enacted, so as to
read as follows:
&6. The judge of the corporation court of the city of Nor-
folk, shall as soon as may be atter the first of February, eigh-
teen hundred and cighty-four, either in term = time or vaca-
tion, appoint a registrar and three Judges of election for each
of the above mentioned voting precincts, who shall be dis-
creet citizens and residents of the precincts for which they
are appointed, and shall designate five of the said judges of
election to act as Commissioners of election.
§7. Each of the registrars appointed as above provided,
shall, within five days. after the date of their appointment,
upon such day as may be designated by the judge of said
court, in term time or vacation. proceed to register the
names of all the qualified voters of his precinct, who reside
therein, and according to law are entitled to registration,
giving notice of the time and place thereof, tor at least three
days before commencing such registration, by publication of
said notice in three newspapers published i in said city of Nor-
folk, and by posting printed notices thereof, at ten public
places within his precinct. Appeals from the decision of any
of said registrars may be made to the judge of the corpora-
tion court of the city of Norfolk, either in term time or
vacation. Said registrars shall complete said registration
within six days from the time of commencing the same, and
immediately after completing the said registration, shall
cause to be posted at three or more public places in their
respective precincts, written or printed lists of all persons
admitted by them to registration.
§8. Inall other respects, except as herein provided, the
duties of said registrars shall be the same as prescribed in
the general registration laws of the state, and in making said
registration and in all registrations thereafter, the registrars
shall in every particular, except as hereinbefore specitied, be
guided and controlled by the said general registration laws ;
and the registration thus made shall have the same force, vir-
tue, and effect as thoueh the same had been made under the
general registration laws of the state, and shall be revised,
altered, and amended in the modes prescribed in such laws.
Vacancies in the office of any of the registrars or Judges ot
election appointed under the provisions “of this act, shall be
filled by the judge of the said corporation court of the city of
Norfolk, either in term time or vacation, and said judge
may at any time, remove any registrar or ‘judge of election
for cause. The registration made under this act, shall take
the place of all revistrations heretofore made in said city.
2. Section ten of an act entitled an act to establish cight
voting precincts in the city of Norfolk, and to provide for
registration of voters therein, approved December twenty.
first, eighteen hundred and eighty-three, and all acts and
parts of acts in conflict with this act, are hereby repealed.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
