Chap. 569.—An ACT to authorize the city of Petersburg to purchase
a control or all the stock of the Upper Appomattox company, or to
contract for water with said company, and to issue bonds for that
purpose.
Approved March 19, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the city of Petersburg is authorized to purchase a part or all
the stock, or to contract with the Upper Appomattox com-
pany for s0 much water as may be deemed necessary for the
purposes of’ the city, and for this purpose the common council
is authorized and directed to issue and sell bonds of said city
sufficient in amount to carry out the purposes of this act:
provided the question of purchase shall first be submitted to
the people for their approval at a general or special election.
2. On application of fifty property holders, the common
council shall submit either or all of said propositions to a
vote of the people within a period not longer than sixty days
after the application is made.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage, and all acts
and parts of acts inconsistant therewith are hereby repealed.
