Chap. 563.—An ACT authorizing the Washington and Russell turn-
pike Company to macadamize portions of its road.
Approved March 19, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the Washington and Russell turnpike company, be and is
hereby authorized to macadamize such portions of its road
as in the judgment of said company may scem best; and for
this purpose the said company is further authorized and em-
powered to issue and negotiate bonds to the amount of one
thousand doiars per mile of the denomination of one hundred
dollars each, payable in ten years, and bearing interest at the
rate of seven per centum per annum, payable semi-annually;
and to sccure the payment of the bonds and interest thereon
by adeed of trust on said turnpike road and its appurtenances
and franchises.
2. The toll-gates upon said road shall not be a less distance
apart than five miles, and the legislature retains the right to
regulate and prescribe the rate of tolls upon said road.
