Chap. 56.—An ACT giving the consent of this state to the acquisition
by the government of the United States, of so much land as may be
necessary for a Public Building in the town of Abingdon.
In force January 28, 1884,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the consent of the state of Virginia is “hereby given and
granted to the purchase or acquisition by the government of
e United States, or under the authority of the same, of so
uch land as may be required for a site for a public build-
¢ for the accommodation of the United States courts, post-
ices, and other government offices in the town of Abingdon,
unty of Washington, and state of Virginia.
2. That this state retains concurrent jurisdiction witb the
nited States over such land, so that courts, mayistrates, and
icers of this state may take such cognizance, execute such
-ocess, and discharge such other legal functions within the
mie as may not be incompatible with the consent hereby
Ven.
3. The lots, parcels, or tracts of land so acquired, together
ith the tenements and appurtenances for the purposes before
entioned, shall be held exempt from all state, county, and
unicipal taxation, so long as the United States sball be, and
main the owners thereot.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
